Follow-up Comment #3, bug #45412 (project octave):

This problem never existed on the stable branch.  It was introduced on the
development branch in http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/ce8fda51d236
and then fixed on the development branch with
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/494a5ed628b5.
