Follow-up Comment #7, bug #46330 (project octave):
On Debian (and probably Ubuntu also) it crashes when using OpenBLAS but not
when using netlib BLAS.
With netlib:
>> c / (i*inf*e - a)

and Octave continues running. Using OpenBLAS:
