Follow-up Comment #5, bug #46063 (project octave):
Making libgnu non-recursive is definitely doable. I made some effort on that
front a couple months ago with gnulib upstream, but haven't gotten to a
solution yet. Gnulib has a non-recursive hack, but much of it assumes the
library directory is called "lib".
I see what you're saying about the attempt to build these files twice in a
single make run.
