First, I missed some of your emails since my spam filter
ate them. I think that is fixed now.

John and Rik:

I do have both fltk and gnuplot available. But,
if I run the current build I get:
>> available_graphics_toolkits()
ans = 
{
  [1,1] = qt
}
>> 
So, this is a problem.
If I run: run-octave (from the octave build directory) I get:
>> available_graphics_toolkits()
ans = 
{
  [1,1] = fltk
  [1,2] = gnuplot
  [1,3] = qt
}
>>
