Follow-up Comment #39, bug #47346 (project octave):
One more thing, you might want to check how you have configured Octave in the
development directory. Maybe you didn't give it the '--prefix=/usr/local' and
'make install' is actually installing it somewhere else like /usr. In that
case, every 'make install' would just be writing the files somewhere else, but
/usr/local probably appears first in your PATH variable and is the version you
are getting when you type 'octave' at the shell prompt.
