Follow-up Comment #1:
Yes, it is expected in that I see the same even for x and y of length 1e4 on
my system. Octave does not attempt to stop the user from doing operations that
may use up all of their system memory. If decreasing the size of your data set
or processing it in batches solves the problem, then do that. Or if gnuplot
handles such an excessively large data set, then use gnuplot.
