Follow-up Comment #6, bug #47950 (project octave):
The dir function uses glob to get the list of files in a directory and it
seems to be failing on Windows systems.
So you should see the issue if you do
mkdir ('[test]')
glob ('\[test\]')
If glob is fixed, then dir should work.
