I made your change, as well as overhauling the way that text-based menu
operations are done in this cset
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/ca9e09417e1f).  This is on the
development branch, but since this is just an m-file you can grab it from the
Mercurial repository and copy it in to your local installation to see the
changes.
