Follow-up Comment #4:

Yes if you change the example to 


im = uint8 (rand(20, 20, 3) * 64);
imshow (im);
[x y] = ginput (1)


then it crashes for me also. This bug has been fixed since Octave 4.0.1: see
bug #45372.
