Follow-up Comment #36, bug #45507 (project octave):

These are fairly extreme corner cases.  My feeling is that we shouldn't spend
more valuable programmer time on this issue, when there are more pressing
ones.

Eventually, probably within the next 12 months, 4.2 will be released making
C++ a requirement and most people are going to meet that with a modern version
of gcc.
