Follow-up Comment #6, bug #48387 (project octave): I think it is a limitation of opengl. It just does not have a sophisticated line joining algorithm one would fine in a true 2-d drawing library like cairo. So I would suggest using gnuplot with cairo based terminals (qt, pngcairo, pdfcairo, epscairo). Alternatively you may want to draw your data with dots then overplot with thin line.
