Follow-up Comment #4, bug #48671 (project octave):
John: Is OCTAVE_HOME set in the bash environment?
If not, then the programs appear to be working correctly on your system. On
Windows systems, they are supposed to determine the value of OCTAVE_HOME from
the location where they are installed.
