Follow-up Comment #1, bug #49018 (project octave):

Did you wipe (or backup) .config/qtsettings and start Octave again?

I had similar problems lately, the undocked editor always appeared in a very
small window in a corner of the screen - apparentlyits settings weren't
properly retained.
Wiping qtsettings and reinstating my personal settings (at the cost of some
work, yes) solved the issue .
