Follow-up Comment #15, bug #49009 (project octave):

octave:1> image
octave:2> get (gca, 'ydir')
ans = reverse


So Octave is Matlab-incompatible here, but I really don't see it making a big
difference.  I vote for leaving it the way it is and if someone is really
interested in this little discrepancy they will file a bug report about it.
