* to question in comment #2 and #4: the Octave "rename" command works fine on
both hidden and un-hidden files, also on filenames beginning with a ".".
Another observation: The command "fid = fopen('file.txt', 'w')" does also NOT
work if "file.txt" is an existing but "hidden" file.
