Follow-up Comment #11, bug #49214 (project octave):

Thank you for the tests and clarification. So overwriting an existing file
with the hidden attribute set is not allowed at the standard library level on
Windows. There's not much we can do about that, this is the way readline
operates when it is saving the session history.
