Thanks Dan! I really appreciate this. The GUI is nicely working on macOS
besides freezing on exit and some scaling issues of the plot engine on
high-dpi screens. It seems rather minor stuff that stops mac users from using
the GUI...

Sadly, your patch is not preventing that octave freezes. How can I provide
helpful debug output?
