I think you should file a new bug report about the upside-down axes glitch.
This bug was specifically about running Octave in a wayland environment. When
I ran in an x11 environment everything was fine.

Yes, you are using QOpenGLWidget. If your Qt provides both, QOpenGLWidget is
preferred.
