Follow-up Comment #2, bug #52413 (project octave):

This may also be due to a bug in my version of Qt (5.2) which has been fixed
in later versions. If it is the case then we can probably close this report
since mint 17.3 is based on ubuntu 14.04 which will probably not be supported
anymore at the time we release Octave 4.4
