Details:
See attached png file. The '.' blends in with the dots used to pad out the
line in the index. The ".'" (transpose) looks bad because it is using a curly
apostrophe. It should probably be set with @code to produce a fixed width
apostrophe which more closely resembles what one sees on screen in a terminal.
