I agree with Rik in

don't think we want different manual output for different versions of Texinfo.
I wouldn't want the table of contents or index to look different between the
HTML and the PDF versions. So if this sorting feature is very important, then
I think we just need to say it requires Texinfo 6.1 and be done with it. I am
going to make sure I can install Texinfo 6 locally and build with that.
