Follow-up Comment #23, bug #49053 (project octave):

Regarding whether the scaling problem happens on OSX with Qt4.8, I do not see
the scaling problem when using Qt 4.8.7. 

For those interested, a Homebrew formula for Qt 4.8.7 is available at the link
below.

If I understand correctly

1) file #42901 is incompatible with Qt4
2) file #42901 not fix the scaling problem for images.
3) file #42901 needs style fixes to conform to Octave coding standards

Thus, the build a functional Octave Qt4 is necessary. I plan to stick with
Qt5.
