Would you look over John's patch and comment compliance to Octave's coding
style conventions? It looks ok to me, but I don't trust myself with C++.

@John,

Can you put together a ChangeLog describing the changes? Once the coding style
are verified, I can construct the changeset in your name and commit.

I'm in a bit of a rush, since I'll be starting a new job on Monday and may not
have time to get back to this for a while.
