Follow-up Comment #38, bug #49053 (project octave):

I attached new patches and changelog files. In the changelog, I also included 
bug #52878 as being fixed because I am almost assured it is the same issue.
However, we should probably wait to hear back from someone who can build on
that Linux machine before we declare it fixed (or a duplicate of this bug).

This also has the casting problems fixed that had been pointed out.
