Follow-up Comment #37, bug #52775 (project octave):
If the exit status is, for some reason, not being reported correctly then why
not just use the existence of the output file?
I'm using texinfo 6.1 and when I run with a file that leads to an error then
no output .info file is created. So check for '-e conftest.info'
