Follow-up Comment #5, bug #52988 (project octave):

I'm not sure what to do with character arrays.  Matlab can't edit them.  We
can, but I guess it should work differently from other numeric arrays.  So we
would really be editing rows and simply taking what the user enters as the
text instead of evaluating the expression to create a value.
