Follow-up Comment #22:

I might be close to having a work-around for this.
Can the 4.4.1 release be delayed until after this weekend?
If I won't have it ready until then, it's going to take considerably longer
until I can come back to it.

Changing targeting release to 4.4.1-rc1 and increasing priority.
