Follow-up Comment #3, bug #54572 (project octave):
Err, multiplication is fine (I subtracted when I should have added 5):
octave:3> (intmin('int32') + 5) * 10
ans = -2147483648
octave:4> (intmin('int64') + 5) * 10
ans = -9223372036854775808
So it is just the original example that is the issue.
