Follow-up Comment #9, bug #54391 (project octave):

Those hard-coded bindings have been part of cmd-edit.cc since it was added
with hg id 66ef74ee5d9f in May 97:
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/66ef74ee5d9f
Maybe those bindings were necessary back then and are no longer now?
