Follow-up Comment #20, bug #54920 (project octave):
On a related note, see bug #54953. It is possible to create figures which
can't be closed because there is an exception during the creation of the
figure object. Probably the creation code needs to be wrapped in a try/catch
in C++ which closes the partially constructed figure if the application of
properties with set(xxx,yyy) fails.
