Follow-up Comment #11, bug #55046 (project octave):
I think adding attributes for these functions would be good.
It would also be good to do it in a way that is consistent with what we do for
other attributes (see the generated octave-config.h file). That way the
conditionals checking for GCC are hidden in a header file. If we
conditionally define a macro like
OCTAVE_FORMAT_ATTRIBUTE (TYPE, INDEX, FIRST)
then we can just use that as needed and it can be defined for any compiler
that supports this type of attribute feature.
