Follow-up Comment #2, bug #55032 (project octave):
I took a look at how LibreOffice and Thunderbird implement the
most-recently-used (MRU) menu. They seem to have a small down arrow
immediately to the right of the main button. I'm attaching a png showing how
LibreOffice does it.
