Follow-up Comment #1:
Yes, apparently for 5.1.0 you need to run 'make install' and then run the
installed version of Octave.
This doesn't affect the development branch of Octave which means there is
probably a changeset that could be backported to stable.
I would classify this as a small problem unlikely to affect many programmers
so it make not pass the threshold for making it in to a 5.2.0 bug fix release.
