Follow-up Comment #22, bug #42136 (project octave):
I also don't know why the box drawing characters aren't taken from the font
directly and what could possibly break if we removed that logic. It looks like
we inherited that code from QTermWidget when it was forked in 2012. The code
in question is still there in current QTermWidget:

I don't know if it is worth trying to merge changes from there, given that our
fork deviated considerably (at least the file names no longer match) and there
are plans to re-write the command window widget anyway.
How should we proceed?
