Follow-up Comment #4, bug #55911 (project octave):
Does the following additional change help? I tested with sundials 3.1.2
installed with -I/usr/include/suitesparse in CPPFLAGS (works) without that
(disables sundials) and without sundials installed (disables sundials). If
this doesn't work for you, can you show again the current messages from
configure about sundials libraries, headers, and functions?

I do see warnings in the configure summary now when sundials is disabled by
configure.
