Follow-up Comment #13:
I believe this bug was also fixed when bug #29447 was fixed. I now see the
following behavior with the development sources:
octave> fh = str2func ("jskafljsdaklfjsadklfjasd")
fh = @jskafljsdaklfjsadklfjasd
octave:6> fh()
error: jskafljsdaklfjsadklfjasd: invalid function handle
