Follow-up Comment #37, bug #55823 (project octave):

I can confirm the behavior described by Philip. I have a script using xlsread
and xlswrite that shows the same effect. After running the program GUI
complains that the file in the editor would have been deleted and closes the
tab.

I am using octave 5.1.0 on Windows 7.
