Follow-up Comment #2, bug #56795 (project octave):
Hi Philip,
To your questions, the GUI window just opens and after about one second
closes again. And I've tried it many times with the same results -- even
re-installed JRE / Octave, to see if some updates would have helped.
On the bright side, I lucked out and found that the issue seems to have to do
with the monitor resolution.
If instead of opening the window on my secondary 30" monitor, I open it on the
small notebook screen, there is no problem.
Also, I can then move the windows over manually, just for some reason the
window cannot open directly on the large screen.
Thanks,
Kaywan

(and apparently "gracefully") shut down by itself?

more often after reinstalling Octave. FYI I use Octave mostly on Windows 7
Professional (home) & -Enterprise (at work), rarely on Win10.
> I simply restart Octave again, usually it works fine that second try and
keeps on working fine thereafter also in next invocations.

not released my malware checkers? New entries in the qt-settings file that
haven't been initialized? search me.
> All that counts for me is that Octave works fine afterwards.
