Follow-up Comment #40, bug #49718 (project octave): (Pantxo here, unable to connect) Thanks. So "system" uses two different code path depending on whether an output value is requested or not. When an output value is requested "system" ends up using octave::popen, which I have modified to include surrounding quotes on Windows ... hence the spurious additional quotes in the error message.
