Follow-up Comment #9, bug #57439 (project octave):
Given that canonicalize_file_name fails for Windows UNC paths (returns empty
string), I'm not sure if the canonicalized path can be safely used as the key
for the private functions.
I haven't tried yet. But we should probably revisit this change.
I'll report when I had a chance to testing private functions on UNC paths.
