Follow-up Comment #1, bug #57812 (project octave):

My plan to work around this problem using rawarr has been thwarted. rawarr
also contains NaN in place of the accounting negative numbers.

LibreOffice shows "(724)"
xmlread shows NaN
I hoped to see -724
