Follow-up Comment #10, bug #57471 (project octave):
English is not a very logical language, partially because it has borrowed
frequently from other languages. The singular is "vertex", the plural is
"vertices". The odd nature of the plural (not just adding an 's' at the end
as is customary) is because this word came to English from the dead language
Latin and the rules for forming plurals in that language were different.
