Follow-up Comment #11:

I changed the default "paperposition" property to match the "papersize" and
"position" properties.  This avoids requiring to change "paperpositionmode"
from "auto" to "manual" and back to "auto" to force a re-calculation.  It also
worked better in that I did not get segmentation faults when running
bm_new_fig.m.
