Follow-up Comment #11, bug #57861 (project octave):

I see the point that extra whitespace should not be deleted at the end of a
file. 

I am still reluctant to "hide" an existing newline at the end of a file
instead of displaying the file to the user as it is and like geany or nano are
doing. If it is consent to chop an existing newline while loading and
"silently" adding one by "saving" I will implement this behavior.
