It's more that I remembered it to be around that time (2010-2012 or so), but I
needed google to help me find it back.
But there must be also another posting from (IIRC) you in either the bug
tracker or maintainers ML where you benchmarked again and found function
handles to be generally faster than function names in cellfun(). Based on that
I've always preferred function handles since .... which now turns out to be
wrong.
Oh well ...
