Thanks for your perseverence in fixing this bug, that at first was quite an
elusive one.

The only observation that's still at play is the 2nd one in my original report
(after "Perhaps related") which also looks like some sort of focus issue but
then on the cascading file popup.
As I see that in Octave-5.2.0 as well I no longer think it is related to the
underlying issues fixed here.
