Follow-up Comment #6, bug #58791 (project octave):

@Michael: I was off for a bit, but back to looking at Octave bugs again.  I
downloaded your compile.log.zip and there are no warnings in it.  Is it
possible that when you compiled you didn't capture stderr and send it to the
file as well?
