Thanks for testing.

The gdb version info is displayed in the Octave command window in Windows,
too.
Looking at the code, this seems to be deliberate.

Do you have to attach manually to the Octave process? For me, gdb is already
attached when I call `__debug_octave__`.

Please, open a new report for the crash when you call `ls`.
