Follow-up Comment #25, bug #59173 (project octave):
How would the 3-patch system resolve the compilation problem with the control
package? From jwe's comment I inferred that using LFLAGS was not the right
thing to do in that Makefile, and that seemed to be the inspiration for
embarking on a different course.
