I also believe we should continue to test whether passing functions by name works. I pushed a change that should be fixing the BISTs slightly differently here: https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/bf62eeabf6d1 I don't see what needs to be changed for ode15i. Re-opening for the point 2.) in comment #9 which seems to be quite similar to the original issue.
